Applicants for a Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190) must obtain at least 65 points on a points assessment and be nominated by a participating State or Territory government in Australia.

You must submit an expression of interest (EOI) and be invited by SkillSelect to apply for this visa.

If you are invited, you will have 60 days to apply for a visa.

Duration of stay

This is a long-term visa. Applicants are allowed to stay in Australia indefinitely. The 190 visa includes a travel component that expires 5 years after the visa is granted. After this period, applicants may apply for one of the following positions:

Nomination of a State or Territory

You must be nominated by a state or territory in Australia. Each state and territory government has its own list of eligible occupations and may have specific skill and work experience requirements.

Skills & Occupation

Your occupation must be on the list of qualified skilled occupations.

To demonstrate that you have the skills and qualifications to work in your chosen occupation, you must successfully complete a skill assessment through an authorized assessing authority.

Test for Points and Invitation

To be invited to apply for this visa, you must first submit an Expression of Interest (EOI).

To be invited to apply, you must score at least 65 points.

PARTNER

Your married or de facto partner can be of either sex. Applicants must demonstrate that:

  • the relationship is genuine and ongoing
  • your partner is at least 18 years old at the time the application is submitted (there are some exceptions)
  • You are not related by blood or marriage (if you are in a de facto relationship)
  • you and your partner have made a mutual commitment to a shared life at the expense of all others, and
  • you live together or do not live separately on a permanent basis.

CHILDREN

A child must be your child or a stepchild from a current or previous relationship (in certain circumstances) to be eligible to be included or added to a 190 visa.

  • not be married, engaged, or have a de facto partner; and must be:
  • under the age of 18
    or
  • over the age of 18 but under the age of 23, and reliant on you or your partner
    or
  • over the age of 23, unable to earn a living to support themselves due to physical or cognitive limitations, and reliant on you or your partner (Note: The child must still meet Australia’s health requirements).
  • a dependent child of a child who qualifies under 1, 2, or 3 above.

ENGLISH

Applicants over the age of 18 must demonstrate Functional English or pay a fee.
Functional English can be demonstrated without IELTS if you:

-> completed all years of primary school and at least three years of secondary school in an educational institution in or outside of Australia, with all instruction in English.
or
-> completed at least five years of secondary school in an institution in or outside of Australia, with all instruction in English.

AGE

Children over the age of 23 cannot be included in your application. (Unless there are unusual circumstances.)

HEALTH AND BEHAVIOR

All members of the family must meet certain health and character requirements. All applicants over the age of 16 are required to provide police clearances.
