General Skilled Migration

There are many individuals who wish to apply for independent skilled visa. Skilled visas are points tested and applicant must meet minimum points in order to apply for these visas. The first step in the skilled visas category application is to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through Skill Select (DIBP’s online system). Subject to meeting all other requirements you may be invited by DIBP to apply for visa and you will have a limited time to apply after that invitation. There are various visa options in the Skilled Visas category.

Skilled – Independent visa Subclass 189
This visa is an independent permanent skilled visa which allows you to enter, live and work in Australia. Under this visa, applicants do not require sponsorship from an employer, family or state or territory government nomination. Applicant must meet necessary threshold in a nominated occupation which must be on the applicable THE MEDIUM AND LONG-TERM STRATEGIC SKILLS LIST (MLTSSL) and skills assessed by relevant assessing authority.

Skilled – Nominated visa Subclass 190
This is a permanent visa for applicants who have applied for and successfully obtained Australian state/territory government nomination. Applicant must meet necessary threshold in a nominated occupation must be on the applicable THE SHORT-TERM SKILLED OCCUPATION LIST (STSOL) and skills assessed by relevant assessing authority. Applicant must meet specific requirements in order to get an invitation from Australian state/territory government.

Skilled – Regional (Provisional) visa Subclass 489
This is a Provisional visa allows the visa holder to stay in Australia for up to four years and visa holder must live in specified regional area for two years and work for at least one year. You must be sponsored by:
Regional Australian state/territory government and your nominated occupation must be on the relevant THE SHORT-TERM SKILLED OCCUPATION LIST (STSOL) and skills assessed by relevant assessing authority.
OR
A family member in the regional area and Nominated occupation must be on the applicable THE MEDIUM AND LONG-TERM STRATEGIC SKILLS LIST (MLTSSL) and skills assessed by relevant assessing authority.

This provisional visa allows you to apply for permanent residency (subclass 887)if you meet all requirements.

Skilled Regional (Residence) (Subclass 887) – A permanent visa for Subclass 489 visa holders who have lived for at least two (2) years and worked for at least one (1) year in a Specified Regional Area in Australia.

Skilled Graduate (Subclass 485) – This is a temporary visa allows overseas students who do not meet the criteria for a permanent General Skilled Migration visa to remain in Australia for 18 months to gain skilled work experience or improve their English language skills. This visa has no restrictions on work, study and travel.

Skilled Recognised Graduate (Subclass 476) -This is an 18 month temporary visa for graduates of recognised overseas educational institutions who have skills in demand in Australia. This visa allows recent graduates of selected overseas universities to gain up to 18 months of skilled work experience in occupations in demand in Australia.
